With a joke And that laugh you turn to leave. In that instant Your knowing facade slips, Slightly, As the familiar doubts resurface. How many times now? You turn away Feigning indifference But the slip is just enough. Reality slithers in Harsh Uninvited. Warping tentative walls. You laugh it off But the damage is done. A sullen corner lifted gently Tomorrow the battle begins But for tonight societies glue Holds it all together.
